Dear students,
I have now opened the whole course in ARCHE with the final unit "JULIA2 - Scientific programming with Julia". The added unit is composed of 2 segments and, while it doesn't include quizzes, it has a couple of exercises that I will manually review. They are due on the 1st of May.
I also opened some lessons representing a very gentle introduction to basic Machine Learning concepts and algorithms. These are not part of this course, but represent an interesting complement for those of you that haven't any background on it.
I have also revised all the questions, corrected some errors and, following also your feedback, clarified some. This is the first run of this course, so errors could still be present. Please let me know if you spot further errors!
Tomorrow (10:00 am, campus APT, Salle Jacamon 1) we will have the second (and last) in-person lesson. We will work on the issues/questions that have been more "complicated" but also we will develop together the Shelling Segregation Model. This is a classical agent-based model in the social sciences, that introduced the concepts of emerging macro behaviours and tipping points, leading to its author (Thomas Schelling) receiving the Nobel prize in Economics in 2005. It is one of the very first results obtained from running simulations, especially in the social sciences.
