    • This class is intended to provide the students with the ability to write a scientific paper in English. The first aim is thus English, the second is scientific writing. This class will thus be completely provided in English, with the possible exception of oral communication in class, and will deal with scientific paper writing.

The instructor will provide the basic knowledge around scientific writing, along with an introduction to the basic tools. The students will then be expected to practice on their own, with the help of the instructor, to acquire the basics skills : LaTeX mastering, reference management and actual scientific writing.

A grade has to be delivered at the end of the class. As the students are expected to have gained the skills necessary for actually writing a scientific paper, they are expected, at the end of this class, to hand in a scientific paper on the subject of their choice (can be a lab work report, for instance) which respects the requirements of a scientific paper :

      • Originality. The handed-in paper can use the work of other only if it is properly cited and referenced. This will be verified.
      • Written using LaTeX. Though this is not a general requirement for actual scientific papers, it is recommended and will be a requirement for this class.
      • Properly referenced cited work, using BibTeX. Again, this is a requirement for this class, though it is only strongly advised for actual papers.
      • Laid-out as a scientific paper and targeted to a chosen specific journal.
The grade will take all these requirement into accounts. The instructor is available during class or by e-mail at any time. The due date will be in December. The written papers may get published on this site.
