Hello, use this thread to introduce yourself

In view of our first face to face lesson of tomorrow 17th March, please reply to this thread in order to briefly introduce yourself and present your work (you can use French if you prefer).

I start with myself:

I am a Research Engineer at AgroParisTech, and my main job is working with complex bio-economic models of the forest sectors, trying to understand the trade-off between the wish to contribute climate change mitigations in the forest sector with the need to already adapt to climate change itself, by studying the cascade of effects of climate change on the vegetation, the consequent change in the behaviour of forest managers and the effects on timber markets.

I do also teach natural resources and forest economics.

Concerning Julia, I am the developer of several packages and I wrote an introductory book and a tutorial on Julia.

Hello everyone,

I am a second year PhD student working on robotics and artificial intelligence. I try to make humanoids robots more resilient to faults and damages that are bound to happen during long real-life missions. I use C++ and Python on a daily basis, but I have never used Julia and I'm curious about it.

I am Nicolas, a 2nd year PhD student working on (explainable) artificial intelligence - also named XAI - and recommender systems for educational purposes. I almost exclusively use Python but I was curious about experimenting with Julia a bit, too.

Hello, my name is Naila Mezoued. I am currently a Phd student at Georessouces Laboratory, Nancy.
My research work is focused on the application of portable analytical tools (LIBS, XRF)  in the mining inductry. In particular, the identification and quantification of light elments such as Li, F and Be. Thus, to provide rapid and accurate data, directely on the field and optimize time and ressources during drilling or exploration campaigns.

My name is Cristobal Carreno, I'm 2nd year PhD student at CRAN lab. Currently I'm working on indoor positioning systems. The main of my work is developed in Matlab language, but also I program in C/C++ language for embedded systems. I'm interested to discover the advantages of Julia language over saving time calculations.

Hi All,

I am a 2nd year PhD student studying Biology. I study the sibling molecule of DNA called the RNA and how that changes to result in diseases. For my study, I deal with huge data sets that arise from sequencing (reading) the RNA sequences (information stored in RNA) so for now, I am learning to use R for data analysis. However, I have not attended any programming courses. The purpose of enrolling in this course is to have a bit more basic understanding of programming in general.

Hello everyone,

My name is Jimmy and I am a 3rd year PhD student in Mathematics. I study quantum field theory models, especially Pauli-Fierz models which modelize the interaction between quantum particles and a quantum field. I already used Julia to do some simulations for my own work, but I learned only by myself, so I want to improve my skills and learn new things. See you all tomorrow !

My name is Burin Yodwong Ph.D. student at GREEN laboratory. My thesis focused on power electronics and modeling for hydrogen production systems. Moreover, I have some parts for the simulation of the PEM electrolyzer. In my opinion, the Julia language is will be useful for that work. See you all tomorrow.

Hello everyone,

I'm Saeid, 2nd year Ph.D. student working on modeling and simulation of hydrogels, polymers, etc. to understand their behavior at atomic and molecular levels.
I use python/Bash almost every day... Normally python and bash are enough and work well for me, but sometimes I have a lot of mathematical operations that take hours and hours of time in python, so I need something fast and powerful...
I know some basics ("Hello world!" Level) about Julia and I really like to try it and of course use it at least in my research...

Hello everyone! 

I am 1st year Ph.D. student in Electronics. My name is Iryna Bevza. My thesis is dedicated to improving the use of hydrogen fuel cells by power electronics. I have attended courses of C and C++ at university and started to learn Python. I like the opportunities that programming gives in combination with electronics. I want to learn Julia to feel free to use abilities of this language because I want to have more possibilities in my future work and research.

I am a 4th year PhD student in mathematics, studying the algebraic and categorical foundations of differential calculus. I first heard about Julia during a seminar about computer-assisted proof verification, and it made me curious then, but I never used it myself.
